The Solanaceae, or nightshades, are a family of flowering plants that ranges from annual and perennial herbs to vines, lianas, epiphytes, shrubs, and trees, and includes a number of agricultural crops, medicinal plants, spices, weeds, and ornamentals.

Theaceae, the tea family of plants in the order Theales. The Theaceae comprises about 40 genera of trees or shrubs native to temperate and tropical regions of both hemispheres, including several ornamental plants, one that is the source of tea. Members of the family have evergreen leaves and flowers with five sepals (leaflike structures) and petals and numerous stamens inserted at the base of the ovary.

Simaroubaceae, the quassia family of flowering plants, in the order Sapindalescomprising 25 genera of pantropical trees, including Ailanthus, or the tree of heaven (q.v.). Members of the family have leaves that alternate along the stem and are composed of a number of leaflets arranged along an axis. Most species have small flowers, bitter bark, and fleshy fruits that are sometimes winged. The tree of heaven is often planted as an ornamental along city streets because it is smoke- and insect-resistant.

The Sterculiaceae are trees, shrubs, or herbs comprising about 65 genera and 1,000 species that are further characterized by the presence of stellate hairs. The leaves are alternate and simple or infrequently palmately lobed or compound; stipules are present but they are shed early. The flowers are actinomorphic or rarely zygomorphic, and are bisexual or not uncommonly functionally unisexual.
